Aims and Objectives
The knowledge and skills obtained on the Neonatal Life Support Course include:
- Recognition of the at risk pregnancy
- Pre resuscitation preparation
- Neonatal resuscitation steps
- Neonatal ventilation techniques
- Neonatal circulation techniques
- Neonatal intubation
- Medications for the newly born
- Special resuscitation circumstances
- Medico-legal aspects of neonatal resuscitation
- Ethical considerations
- Post resuscitation care
Target Audience
Any healthcare worker who has Current registration as a Medical or Dental practitioner, Intern, Junior Intern, Professional Nurse or Paramedic. Candidates must have a Valid Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers Certificate in accordance with the Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa.
Course duration
1 day of interactive discussion, video instruction, hands on skills sessions and case based scenario simulation training.
Pre course preparation
A comprehensive American Academy of pediatrics Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation is supplied for self study prior to ANLS Course participation.
Assessment & course evaluation
Candidates are expected to pass a MCQ test Based on the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation. They must also pass a practical evaluation as team leader during the management of a newborn resuscitation.
Course certification
Each candidate will receive a Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa course completion Card upon successful completion of the Course.
CPD accreditation
Accredited by the Health Professions Council of SA for 18 Continuing Education units (including medical ethics).
